A criminal case has been opened against Alberto Rojas, a journalist for the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, for illegally crossing the Russian border (Article 322 of the Russian Criminal Code). The Investigative Committee stated that in February 2025, Rojas entered Russian territory without documents and accompanied by Ukrainian military personnel. He subsequently remained in the Sudzha district of the Kursk region. Previously, similar cases were opened against CNN journalist Nick Payton; Ukrainian correspondents Olesya Borovik, Diana Butsko, and Natalia Nahorna; Italian journalists Simone Traini and Stefania Battistini of RAI; and Deutsche Welle journalist Nicholas Connolly.
