The Khatlon Region law enforcement agencies detained Ahmad Ibrohim, a prominent journalist and editor-in-chief of the independent weekly Paiq. A law enforcement source told Radio Ozodi that the journalist was detained on August 12 at his work office in Kulob and has been in custody since then. «He is accused of bribing a public servant. The Kulob prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal case against him under Article 320 (bribery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan», — he said. According to the source, Ahmad Ibrohim offered the civil servant money to extend the registration of Paiq, the only independent media outlet in the Khatlon Region.
