Additional information:

On January 12, the Bishkek City Court sentenced activist and blogger Adilet Baltabay (Adilet Ali Myktybek) to five years in prison. In November 2022, the court found the activist guilty of calling for mass riots and sentenced him to five years in prison, but released him from the courtroom after applying probationary supervision for three years. On January 12, the court reversed the decision of the first instance and took the blogger into custody in the courtroom. Baltabay had written in his posts about the pressure on freedom of expression and problems in the Kyrgyz mining sector and opposed several initiatives of the government. The blogger was detained and taken into custody on June 30, 2022, as part of a criminal case under the article «mass riots». According to Baltabay, state experts have selected «20-30 of his published posts, in which the expertise has confirmed calls for mass riots». The blogger considered this as pressure on freedom of expression.
