Two journalists who were forced to leave Azerbaijan have had criminal cases opened against them. On 13 November, the Prosecutor General’s Office issued a statement on the matter. According to the announcement, prominent US-based critical journalist Sevinc Osmanqizi and Europe-based critical journalist Abid Qafarov have been summoned to the Prosecutor General’s Office. Gafarov is charged under Articles 220.2 (active disobedience to the lawful demands of a government official and calls for mass riots, as well as violence against citizens) and 281.2 (incitement to make open calls directed against the state - when the same actions are committed repeatedly or by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code. A search warrant was issued for him. By the decision of the Binagadi District Court, Abid Qafarov was arrested in absentia.
