On August 29, Yevgeny Pavlov received an Apple alert on his iPhone with a Latvian SIM card about a hacking attempt by «state-sponsored attackers». TV journalist Yevgeny Erlich and director general of Novaya Gazeta Europe Maria Yepifanova, who also live in Latvia, received similar alerts. As in the case of the hacking of the iPhone of Meduza publisher Galina Timchenko, the spy programme Pegasus was probably used.
