On July 13, in Almaty at the opening of the monument to Alexander Nevsky, security guards prevented Meyrim Bakytzhanova, the journalist of Radio Azattyq, from asking a question to Akim Yerbolat Dosayev by using physical force against her. They held her until the car of the mayor drove away. When she tried to ask questions to Kanat Iskakov, Vice-Minister of Information and Public Development, she was grabbed again. She was released after the intervention of the Vice-Minister. On July 19, Radio Azattyq filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office for obstruction of legitimate professional activities. Earlier, the editorial board sent official enquiries to the Almaty Akimat, Almaty Police Department and the Ministry of Information and Public Development.
