On May 21, 2023, Kazakh journalist Zhanbota Tolegen was murdered in Georgia. Her colleagues and friends found out about it on June 18, after journalist Nazira Darimbet sounded the alarm because Zhanbota had stopped contacting her. Relatives later confirmed the journalist’s death. The media reported that Zhanbota Tolegen was killed by her acquaintance in order to get hold of money.
