The movement Protect Alma-Ata/Almaty initiated a petition to disband the City Council of Almaty. The activists believe that it is composed of property developers and architects dependent on them. The media outlet Vecherny Almaty published an article about it on June 27. On June 28, activist Saltanat Tashimova wrote on Facebook: «We have no freedom of speech! I received a notice on my mail from Vecherny Almaty, and the journalist’s text was deleted!». In comments to the post, Tashimova’s followers suggested that the note was removed on instructions from the authorities.
