On June 1, 2023, at around 8 PM, a police officer came to the home of the parents of civil journalist Elmaz Akimova to check a crime report. However, he could not say what offence was in question. The police officer was also interested in the whereabouts of the Akimova and whether she lived at the place of registration. Due to the threat of persecution, Akimova left Crimea and went abroad in early 2023.
