A court in St. Petersburg sent Barnaul-based journalist Maria Ponomarenko to a pre-trial detention center for two months in a criminal case on fakes about the Russian army motivated by political hatred (Paragraph E of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). She is charged with publication in the Telegram channel Cenzury Net about the airstrike on the Drama Theatre in Mariupol. Investigators questioned the journalist’s minor children. Part of the testimony against Ponomarenko was given by her daughter. The journalist arrived in St. Petersburg on March 25 on a long business trip to cover the protest activity. She was detained outside her hotel.
