On May 19, the reporter of Radio Azattyq Ayan Kalmurat was summoned for interrogation to the Almaty City Prosecutor’s Office as a witness in the criminal case of the mass riots that took place in Kazakhstan in early January 2022. Investigator N. Akazhanov asked the journalist where he was and what he was doing from January 2-6. The correspondent said that he had been covering the riots in Almaty, including the events on Republic Square, working as a journalist. According to Kalmurat, the investigator asked many questions about the opposition politician Zhanbolat Mamay. The interrogation lasted for two hours.
