Journalist Andrey Soldatov reported that a criminal case has been opened against him. «Monday started splendid: all my accounts in Russian banks are arrested, plus I found myself in the search database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The case was opened on March 17, 2022, and is allegedly being handled by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee», — he wrote on social media. It later became known that the criminal case was opened under the «fakes» article. On 5 September 2025, has been charged in absentia with spreading false information about the Russian Armed Forces (Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code).
