Russian security forces monitored The Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich as he traveled around Russia before being detained, according to the media outlet. The security forces recorded his movements on camera and put pressure on the sources he was working with. Gershkovich also suggested that his phone was tapped. On the day of his detention, the journalist's colleagues tracked his movements using GPS, but after he went missing, Gershkovich's phone was switched off.
