The Supreme Court of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic acquitted Tural Safarov, a journalist and head of the TNS news agency, who was imprisoned in 2021 for libel. Safarov was sued by Nakhchivan International Airport Director Manshura Gulmamedli in 2021. He was found guilty under Article 147.1 of the Criminal Code (libel) and sentenced to four months imprisonment by the Nakhchivan City Court. On February 2, 2023, the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan considered an appeal against the acquittal of the journalist and concluded that the sentence against him was unlawful and sent the case to the Nakhchivan Supreme Court for a new hearing.
