A court in Stepnogorsk is hearing a case against environmental activists Nikolay Katchiyev and Aleksandra Nazarenko for inciting social hatred using the mass media (Part 1 of Article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan). The prosecution believes that «by creating a social group among the members of the working group, in which Nazarenko became an active member, Katchiyev began to disseminate deliberately false information about the work of the processing plant Kazakhaltyn Technology, alleging that the plant was causing harm to the health of the residents of the village of Bestobe. Further, to destabilize the political, economic, and social situation in the village of Bestobe, Katchiyev entered into criminal collusion with Nazarenko, for which he created a YouTube channel called «Bestobe. Struggle for Life» and, with the help of the media, started publishing his speeches there».
