The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia sent a letter to the management of Pirveli TV channel demanding to give them the materials they claim were used in the June 12 report on the involvement of the Georgian State Security Service in planning and participating in the July 5, 2021 riots, which resulted in the death of several dozen journalists and cameraman Lekso Lashkarava. Nodar Meladze, director of the TV channel news service, said: «The Ministry asks us in advance to provide them with the materials that may become the subject of journalistic investigation. In the same letter, they ask us to indicate where exactly we keep the materials of journalistic investigations. They want to know what other materials we could have received from the investigative journalists and what kind of journalistic investigation we are preparing».
