Hrodna Regional Court sentenced journalist Dzianis Ivashin to 13 years and 1 month in a strict regime colony on charges of interference in the activities of a police officer (Article 365 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus) and treason against the state (Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus). Ivashin was also sentenced to a fine of 150 basic amounts. In addition, he had to pay BYN 2,000 to each of the nine victims in the case. It is unknown who the victims were. The trial was held behind closed doors. Ivashin was detained by KGB officers on March 12, 2021. His last article was about former members of the Ukrainian special unit Berkut, who joined the Belarusian OMON.
