Bakytzhan Amirkhanov, head of the Department for Combating Drug Crimes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, warned Khabar journalist Bakhyt Amirgaliyeva that investigative authorities may initiate criminal proceedings against her in connection with the dissemination of false information. The threat followed in response to the journalist’s question asked during the recording of an interview for the program «Drug Dealers in Pharmacies». Amirgaliyeva asked if he had heard that police officers have their own rates to «overlook» outlets selling narcotic analgesics. «Can you put that in writing? If you libel, we will initiate a criminal case against you», — Amirkhanov replied.
