In Taraz, not a single media outlet was invited to the meeting of deputies of all levels, where, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov, the akim of the Zhambyl region was to be elected. Meanwhile, the correspondent of Orda.kz (one of the few media outlets in the region) managed to get to the meeting not without the interference of the head of the Prime Minister’s Press Service, Kanat Kulshimanov. «Although initially local officials tried to kick the correspondent out, demanded a PCR test, invented various excuses, and even threatened the police», — the editorial board reports.
