On October 13, at the VI Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, which takes place in Astana, Kazakhstani journalists experienced difficulties with admission to the press centers. «In the morning, we arrive at one press center (Shabyt) and our lists are gone. They haven’t printed them out. There are lists of foreign media, but no Kazakhstani ones. We turn around and go to the second press center, and...BINGO! In Kazmedia, no lists yet either. In the end, these lists were delivered almost an hour and a half later», — says Tamara Vaal, editor-in-chief of the capital’s Vlast.kz website. According to Vaal, the unequal treatment happened due to the fact that foreign journalists are dealt with by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and local journalists — by the specialized Ministry of Information and Public Development (MIPD). MIDD reacted to Vaal’s statement by promising to look into the situation.
