Central Asia's first fact-checking resource, Factcheck.kz, may be suspended in Kazakhstan because of pressure from the tax authorities, to which NGOs have been subjected since last November. Currently, four human rights NGOs have received orders from tax officials for millions of dollars in fines for alleged violations in reporting on foreign funding, and three of them have had their activities suspended for three months.
