On June 1, the Lakhsh District Court in eastern Tajikistan found the 66-year-old mother of the well-known blogger Junaidullo Khudoyorov guilty of hooliganism and sentenced her to two years of house arrest. According to the investigation, Mavjigul Garibova, a resident of the Rasht district, caused bodily harm to her fellow villager Alisher Nasriddin. The convicted woman did not plead guilty. The blogger himself had previously been held criminally liable. In 2017, he was sentenced to five years in prison for supporting the Salafia movement, which is banned in the country, after he left comments under posts on social networks. In fact, he served one year and 10 months and was released under an amnesty. Junaidullo believes that the local authorities are taking revenge on him and his family for denouncing district officials who allowed corruption and abuse.
