On June 26, blogger Kural Rametov published on social networks critical comments on the amendments to the Constitution of Uzbekistan, depriving Karakalpakstan of sovereignty. Soon after, law enforcement officers detained him at his workplace. According to non-governmental sources, the police tortured him with tasers and then left him somewhere in Nukus completely naked. He managed to return home, but later that day, he was detained again and transported to the neighboring Khorezm region. It is reported that his wife and other relatives may also have been detained.
