Novashov was prosecuted for spreading deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Part 1 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) for reposting Victoria Ivleva's article «Mariupol. Blockade». The journalist's apartment was searched. The investigator offered Novashov «to apologize to the armed forces». The journalist refused to do this.
