On December 27, Ruslan Khairnurov, blogger and activist of the «Save Samarkand» initiative group, was arrested and placed in the detention center. He is charged under Article 139 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (libel). The blogger had reposted information to the Facebook group «Samarkand News» that a bribe of USD 80.000 had to be paid to obtain the position of chief doctor in the local hospital. On December 24, the judge imposed in absentia a two-month arrest for Ruslan for the duration of the investigation without notifying him.
