On January 12, Nurzhan Baimuldin, editor-in-chief of the Russian Information Agency Koshektau Asia, was detained. The questions he posed to the president of the country through his social network post were deemed to be acts provoking a breach of law and order in a state of emergency. On the same day, a court in Kokshetau arrested Nurzhan Baimuldin for ten days. The journalist was prosecuted under Part 1 of Article 478 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
