On April 21, the first trial was held against Said Yanyshev, the journalist of the Fergana news agency. He was prosecuted under Article 202.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Uzbekistan (dissemination of false information, including in the mass media, telecommunications networks, or on the Internet, leading to the humiliation of personal dignity or discrediting a person). The publication from February 15, 2021, was about a bribe paid to a school principal who agreed to the illegal construction of a high-rise building next to the school. The author then voluntarily removed the unsubstantiated claim of a bribe of the residents near the construction of the houses. Law enforcement authorities claim the journalist was a participant in an unauthorised rally.
