In February, the General Prosecutor's Office announced the initiation of a criminal case under Article 274 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (dissemination of deliberately false information) on the dissemination of a video on the Internet from the washing of the body of civil activist Dulat Agadil, who died in a pre-trial detention center a few hours after his detention. In the video, it was said that there were dark spots on Agadil's body and suggested that these are hematomas appeared after probable torture. In March, activists Medet Arystanov and Kairat Seytkaliev and the spouses Darkhan Omirbaev and Dinara Omirbaeva were summoned to the prosecutor's office for questioning witnesses. In April, the criminal case against Medet Arystanov, a participant in the 405 human rights initiative, was extended for two months.
