In February, the leader of the Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan movement, recognized as extremist in Kazakhstan, called on his supporters to participate in protest rallies on March 1. On the appointed day, police cordoned off places targeted for protests. Factcheck.kz journalist and member of the organizing committee for the creation of the Democratic Party Asel Dzhanabaeva was detained by police on Republic Square in Almaty. The journalist wore a distinctive sign, a vest with the inscription «Press». Radio Azattyk reports that police officers carefully checked the journalists' documents covering the protests and detentions and took several people in vests with the inscription «Press» away from the territory adjacent to the square.
