A court in Baku sentenced a Talysh blogger arrested by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan in June 2020 to seven years in prison for «inciting national hatred». Gurbanov was found guilty of inciting hatred against the state, as well as inciting hostility and hatred on national, racial, social, and religious grounds using social media. The blogger was accused of spreading anti-government propaganda and discriminatory materials on social networks, as well as violating the rights of the Talysh people by publishing materials that «falsely stated» about discrimination against this ethnic group.
