The Serious Crimes Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor’s Office refused to lift the ban on the independent journalist Shahveled Chobanoglu to leave the country. A ban on leaving the country was imposed in 2015. In 2014, he was called as a witness in a criminal case against several media outlets and NGOs. The law of the country does not permit such restrictions to be applied to witnesses.
