The Shekinsk Court of Appeal sentenced bloggers Elchin Gasanzade and Ibrahim Turksoy to eight months of imprisonment on defamation and insult charges. Both were arrested in the courtroom. The private criminal complaint was filed by Shahriyar Mustafayev, the head of the production association of housing and public utilities of Mingecevir. The reason for the lawsuit is critical publications about an official in social media. The Mingecevir City Court had earlier sentenced both journalists to a year of community service. Bloggers appealed the verdict, but the court of appeal upheld the verdict, only reducing the sentence.
