Asylbek Bektenov was detained for 48 hours and placed in a temporary detention centre. The regional department of internal affairs reported that the detention was connected ostensibly with the extortion from a local resident, but editor-in-chief of the newspaper for which the correspondent works, told Radio Azattyk that Asylbek Bektenov was “detained because in his articles, he pointed out the shortcomings of the authorities in the Issyk-Kul region."
