Police officers detained the journalist while he was covering a protest in Mogilev (which continued in Belarus after the presidential elections of August, 9). He was taken to the police department where an administrative report on the violation of the law on mass events was drawn up on him. He was arrested for two days before the trial. The family was not informed about the arrest - the relatives and colleagues did not know where the journalist was for almost 24 hours. On 1 September, the court found journalist guilty and sentenced him to eight days in prison. As a sign of disagreement with the court decision, Sobolevsky went on hunger strike for the duration whole duration of imprisonment.
