On May 19, Alen Simonyan, vice speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, filed a lawsuit against Anna Gevorkyan, director of the news website Hzham.am, demanding a public retraction of factual information considered libelous and also restitution for damage. The reason for the lawsuit was the publication on the site of an article claiming that Alen Simonyan “organized a drunken rampage” in a restaurant and then paid money to the owner of the restaurant to keep it quiet. The court rejected the petition of the plaintiff to seize the assets and cash of the respondent. The plaintiff submitted an appeal of this decision, and the case is awaiting a judicial decision.
