On June 8, the Oktyabrsky District Court in Bishkek decided to renew a review of a criminal case involving blogger Elmir Sydymanov. A comprehensive psychological and linguistic analysis of the blogger’s statements was commissioned. Until the results are received, he will remain under house arrest. In February, Sydymanov posted a video on his Instagram page where he expressed the opinion that the “southern regions of Kyrgyzstan – Osh, Batken, and Jalal-Abad were not developed”. Sydymanov was interned in a temporary holding isolation cell on February 19, 2020 after detention by investigators from the Ministry of Internal Affairs during proceedings under Art. 313 of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan, “Incitement of racial, ethnic, national, religious or inter-regional hostility (enmity)”. Then he was kept under house arrest and was released in early June.
