On June 7, 2019, in Kabardino-Balkaria, police detained Martin Kochesoko, an activist, freelance journalist, founder and chairman of the Circassian NGO Khabze. Interior Ministry officials said that marijuana was found in Kochesoko’s car. He was taken to the police station, then to pre-trial detention in Nalchik, where he confessed under pressure from security services. On June 13, the journalist was transferred to house arrest, and subsequently released on August 23.
