On November 7, the day after Islam's wife Elena appealed to the Chechen prosecutor's office to report her husband's abduction, she received a call from an unknown caller with a Chechen accent who asked her not to come to Grozny. He threatened that otherwise she may “fall asleep and never wake up”.
