The newspaper “Novaya Gazeta” called on Russian authorities to respond to calls for violence against journalists, which were made, according to the editorial board, at a meeting of Islamic theologians and civic leaders in Chechnya on April 3. The meeting at the central mosque of Grozny was convened in connection with the publication of “Novaya Gazeta” about the persecution of gays in the republic.
