On July 5th, the Court of Astana ordered the expulsion of the correspondent, Yazgul Egemberdieva, from Kazakhstan. The court found the journalist guilty of committing an administrative offense under part 2 of article 517 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan for violating migration laws. This relates to an incident when Egemberdiyeva arrived in Kazakhstan from Kyrgyzstan on May 3rd to cover the election campaign in the run-up to the snap presidential elections, and had to register at her place of residence if her stay in the country exceeded 30 calendar days. The journalist had to leave Kazakhstan within 10 days of the ruling coming into force.
