V. Prado, along with his translator Danara, was detained by migration police while filming an interview with a participant of the events in Zhanaozen. Judge Gulmira Suyeuova found Vincent Prado guilty of an administrative offence under part 5, article 517 of the Code of Administrative Crimes of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Violation by a foreigner or stateless person of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of migration of the population, expressed in the non-conformity of the activities carried out by the objectives specified in the visa and/or when registering in the migration card...) The journalist was fined 25 monthly notional units (60125 tenge).
