On 29th March, Uralsk court No. 2 began hearings in a lawsuit to protect the honour, dignity and business reputation of Zharas Akhanov, head of the KSU "Centre for the Study of Religion" of the Department for Religious Affairs of the West Kazakhstan Region, against journalist Zhanar Davletova of the newspaper "Region EurAsia". Shortly after the publication of the material in question, a lawsuit was filed in court. Zharas Akhanov requested the court to oblige Zhanar Davletova to refute the defamatory information "by making written apologies and refutations on the websites" of the newspaper, on the social networks Facebook and Vkontakte, and to recover from the defendant moral harm in the amount of 500,000 tenge.
