On the night of June 10th to 11th, Tengrinews.kz correspondent Shokan Alkhabaev covered police detentions in the Lake Sayran area of Almaty. A policeman approached him and asked why he was filming. Shokan replied that he was a journalist, after which the policeman first told him to stop filming, and then took his phone. The police officers who approached them twisted Alkhabayev and knocked him to the ground. "They started kicking me. The blows were in my face and stomach. I resisted and shouted that I was a journalist. I asked them to let me go. I had my ID in my hand when one of the policemen was twisting me, he grabbed me by the hand and didn't let me show my ID. Then he put his hand behind my back and took away my ID," the Tengrinews correspondent reported.
