Journalist Nurlan Libre (Gahramanli), who is currently being held in detention in connection with the “Meydan TV case,” has announced that he has begun an indefinite hunger strike. He made this announcement in a letter addressed to the public. In the letter, he wrote that several days ago he was placed in a punishment cell (“karser”) at the pre-trial detention centre for two days. He reported being held in extremely poor conditions and subjected to physical and psychological abuse. According to the journalist, he prepared motions and complaints for submission to the court, but prison guards forcibly confiscated the documents. He stated that he will continue the hunger strike until all journalists who have been unjustly imprisoned are released.
