The Hantsavichy District Court of the Brest Region has recognised the website of the regional independent publication Hantsavitski Chas - ganc-chas.com - as an extremist informational material. The newspaper was founded in 2002 and was forced to cease print publication on 1 January 2022 after printing houses in Brest and elsewhere refused to print it. The editorial team continued its work online. On the basis of the court’s decision, the Belarusian Ministry of Information added the website to the “Republican List of Extremist Materials”. Under Belarusian law, the distribution and storage of materials designated as extremist entail administrative liability for both publishers and users.
