It has become known that Oleg Ageev, Deputy Chair of the Belarusian Association of Journalists, has been placed on an interstate wanted list in connection with a criminal prosecution. His details have appeared in the Russian “Wanted” database maintained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. The specific charge under which Ageev is being sought is unknown. Earlier, in February 2022, the Belarusian KGB designated the Belarusian Association of Journalists as an “extremist formation”. Oleg Ageev was named among the “group of citizens engaged in extremist activity”. Under Belarusian legislation, any interaction with resources recognised as extremist formations entails criminal prosecution for participation in an extremist formation or for assisting an extremist formation (Articles 361-1 and 361-4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus).
