On 19 December, the professional activities of the editors of the news websites NewDay.am and Ishkhanutyu.am, Ani Gevorgyan and Lia Sargsyan, were rudely obstructed on the premises of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. A group of individuals treated them in a disrespectful and insulting manner, and one of these individuals, striking at the journalists’ hands and mobile phones, demanded that they stop filming. In connection with the incident, Ani Gevorgyan filed a complaint with the police, while the non-governmental organisation Union of Informed Citizens submitted a crime report to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia. As a result, on 20 December a criminal case was initiated by the Investigative Department of the Armavir Region. An investigation is under way.
