Second World War veteran Pyotr Korobkin has been awarded 20,000 roubles (around €210) in damages in a lawsuit against journalist Anna Sharipova. The case followed Sharipova’s report that Nakhodka’s mayor, Timur Maginsky, had arranged for Korobkin to be temporarily housed in an apartment for an award ceremony, while in fact the 93-year-old lives in a dilapidated wooden house. Sharipova, an independent journalist from Primorsky Krai, says she believes the lawsuit is part of a retaliatory campaign orchestrated by the mayor, who has frequently been the subject of her reporting.
