It became known that journalist Pavel Dobrovolsky, currently held in a KGB detention centre, is being charged with "high treason" (Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code). Dobrovolsky was detained on 22 January 2025. According to available information, the charges are related to his professional activities. He previously worked for both Belarusian and foreign media, including the Ukrainian magazine NV.ua (prior to the full-scale Russian invasion). Dobrovolsky's most recent employer in Belarus was the independent news company BelaPAN, part of whose staff were designated an “extremist organisation” in November 2021.
