On the evening of 29 October, the State Security Service (SSS) carried out searches at the home and office of Vugar Mammadov, editor-in-chief of Hurriyyet newspaper, as well as at the associated website Hurriyyet.az and Hurriyyet TV. Subsequently, Vugar Mammadov and Hurriyyet TV employee Mahir Rustamli were detained. After several hours of questioning, Rustamli was released, while Mammadov remained in custody. During the searches, SSS officers seized all equipment belonging to Hurriyyet TV. To date, no official or unofficial explanation has been given for the detention of the editor-in-chief.
